What is Respite Care?
Respite Care is skilled care of an individual with a disability
or illness which allows the primary caregiver, often the
parent or another family member, the opportunity to attend
to matters outside the home or to provide the primary
caregiver a brief rest, or respite, from the demands of
caring for an individual with special needs.
Who is Respite Care of San
Antonio?
Respite Care of San Antonio is a non-profit agency that
provides care for children or individuals with developmental
disabilities.
What services does Respite
Care provide?
Respite Care provides care through community-based day
and night out services, a residential emergency shelter,
a daycare center.
How can I help?
The community may help support the mission of Respite
Care in many ways. While monetary gifts are always welcome,
there is also a strong need for donations of items such
as toys, clothing, etc., and time donated by volunteers
is priceless.
How do I become a volunteer?
You may obtain information regarding our volunteer needs

Where can I make a donation?
You may make a donation by visiting our offices at 605
Belknap Place during office hours, by mail, or you may
call our accounting offices at (210) 737-1212 to process
a credit card transaction by phone.
How much do services cost?
All services are based upon a sliding scale fee determined by the each family's household income. A payment plan will be developed at time of enrollment.
Which
services provide nursing care?
On-site nursing is available at the Davidson Respite
House and the Respite Daycare. Participants of all
other service options may utilize the Medical Wellness
Center, located behind the Davidson Respite House,
during business hours by appointment.
Is the
daycare a Child Care Delivery System (CCDS) vendor?
Yes, the daycare is a vendor for the Child Care Delivery
System, a childcare program administered by the Texas
Workforce Commission.
Do you
provide transportation?
No, we are unable to provide
transportation at this time, although all service
sites are located within access to public transportation.
Is the
Davidson Respite House a drop off facility? (i.e. a
place to drop off a child whenever for a few hours)
No, the Davidson Respite House is a residential emergency
shelter, providing short-term overnight care.
Can non-disabled siblings attend with their special needs brothers and/or sisters?
Non-disabled siblings are accepted in our Family Day
Out and Parent’s Night Out Services. Pre-school
age non-disabled siblings are accepted at the Mother’s
Day Out and Daycare services.
Are criminal
records checks run on staff?
Yes, we obtain a criminal history report and a DMV
report on each employee upon hire, as well as annually
throughout their employment.
Are your
programs licensed?
The Davidson Respite House and the Respite Daycare
are both licensed through the Texas Department of
Protective and Regulatory Services.
