Services
Respite
Care of San Antonio has many service options available
to registered families. To get more information and
receive a registration packet contact our office at
(210) 737-1212. A registration packet must be completed
before a client can receive the following services.
Children within the ages of birth through 17 years of age are eligible for services.
Mother’s Day Out-
Children six weeks to six years of age are eligible
for the Mother’s Day Out (MDO) services. Non-disabled
siblings in the same age range are welcome. There
are two MDO sites:

Lugar Especial
(A Special
Time a Special Place)- Our Lady of Guadalupe
Church,1321 El Paso, Monday and Wednesday, 8:30am-4:30pm.
- Antioch Baptist Church-1001
N. Walters,
Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 am-4:30
pm.
*MDO programs require a separate registration
process.
Family Day Out- Care
is provided each Saturday, 9:00am-4:00pm. Non-disabled
siblings welcome. Family Day Out services are provided at the following
locations:
- First Presbyterian Church at 404 N. Alamo
- Christ Episcopal Church at 510 Belknap
- University United Methodist Church at 5084 De
Zavala
Parent’s Night Out-
Care is provided on Friday night, 6:30pm-11:00pm. Non-disabled
siblings welcome. Parent's Night Out services are
provided at the following locations:
- Laurel Heights United Methodist Church, 227 W.
Woodlawn
- University United Methodist Church, 5084 De Zavala
Respite Daycare- Monday
– Friday, 7:30 am-6:00 pm at Christ Episcopal
Church. Children 6 weeks – 6 years of age, non-disabled
siblings welcome. School Break Camp is available for
school age children with disabilities during school
holidays. Fees are determined on a sliding fee scale,
based upon household income. Contact our Daycare Director
at 210-735-6680 for enrollment information.
The Davidson Respite House Emergency Shelter-
The first and only emergency shelter in the State
of Texas dedicated to caring for children/individuals
with developmental disabilities. The Davidson Respite
House Emergency Shelter (DRHES) accepts clients placed privately so that
family members may attend to a crisis, as well as
involuntary placements of children who have been removed
from their home by the Texas Department of Family & Protective
Services as a result of neglect and/or
abuse. Located at 605 Belknap Place, the DRHES is open 365 days per year, 24 hours
per day. A sliding fee scale, based upon household
income, determines rate of pay for services.
Eligibility
Respite Care of San Antonio, Inc. and the Davidson
Respite House Emergency Shelter provide services to clients who have
a developmental disability. A developmental disability
is a mental or physical condition that occurred before
the 22nd birthday, is likely to continue indefinitely,
and limits the individual's functioning in daily life
skills.
The disability has to limit the clients
functioning in daily life through three of the following
categories:
- Mobility
- Communication Receptive and Expressive Language
- Self Care
- Learning
- Self Direction
- Independent Living
- Economic Self Sufficiency
The following is a list of diagnosis/disabilities that qualify a client:
- Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Affect
- Down Syndrome
- Mental Retardation
- Cerebral Palsy
- Cornelia de Lang Syndrome
- Autism
- Developmental Disabilities due to Pre-maturity
- Speech/Motor/ Cognitive delays
- Microcephalic
- Hydrocephalic/Shunt
- Various Syndromes if affecting the client developmentally
- Seizure Disorder
- TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) if occurring before
the 22nd birthday
- Spina Bifida
The following is a list of disabilities/diagnosis that disqualify a client:
- Schizophrenia
- Manic-depressive
- Suicidal/Homicidal
- Bi-polar
- Major Depression
- Personality Disorders
- Psychoactive substance abuse disorders
- Psychotic disorders or those not elsewhere classified
in DSM-IV
- Medically fragile
*This list is meant to serve
as a guide. There are and will be disabilities/diagnosis
that are not listed that may or may not qualify a
client for services. Eligibility will be determined
by the Shelter Director.
