| The Respite Care Medical Wellness Center,
located in the carriage house behind the Davidson Respite
House, celebrated it’s grand opening in May 2001.
This service component was designed to assist families
in meeting the sometimes-overwhelming medical needs often
encountered by children with developmental disabilities.
With limited resources for care for children with special
needs, many parents are unable to work outside the home,
leaving them without healthcare insurance. Under these
circumstances, many children do not receive preventive
medical care, resulting in the deterioration of their
condition and preventable emergencies.
Skilled nursing care at the Medical Wellness Center,
the Davidson Respite House and the Respite Daycare
ensures the availability of vital healthcare services
to all registered clients of Respite Care. Participating
clients have access to immunizations, preventive healthcare,
and the treatment of minor illnesses. In addition,
on-site healthcare providers allow us to care for
children with complex medical conditions at the Davidson
Respite House and the Respite Daycare.
In February 2003, Respite Care formed a partnership
with CentroMed, a non-profit leader in
the community demonstrating experience and expertise
in meeting the primary healthcare needs of special
populations. CentroMed staff - a Pediatric
Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurses and a part time
Pediatrician - provide ongoing healthcare services
to participating clients, resulting in the further
enhancement of medical care services available to
the children we serve.
