Respite Care of San Antonio, Inc. was founded in 1987 to provide "time off" for families caring for a child or loved one with developmental disabilities. Its founders were a small group of parents of children with these challenges. They knew that temporary care for their children with special needs would help support their families to help them remain intact and functioning well for all family members. During the ensuing years, additional needs were defined, and the audience served by Respite Care expanded to also include children with complex medical diagnoses.
