Building a Stronger Mental Health Framework for Every Child

Every residential child is now part of the BRE Model, our trauma-informed framework that forms the foundation of our care approach. To track progress, we have also introduced the CHEDA assessment.

This progress is made possible by our Behavioral Support Specialists, who bring the framework and assessments to life through consistent, creative interventions.

On the systems side, we have completed the first phase of mental health documentation. This includes proprietary assessments, treatment plan templates, and tools designed to meet state guidelines.

BRE & CHEDA: Building Blocks for Healing

BRE Model
A trauma-informed framework that helps children rebuild trust, gain independence, and heal emotionally through three core areas:

  • B – Basic Compliance: Learning to follow simple directions, repair relationships with adults, and build trust.

  • R – Response to Complex Instructions: Developing life skills, independence, and self-confidence.

  • E – Emotion Identification & Response: Recognizing and expressing feelings in safe, healthy ways.

CHEDA Assessment
The Child Holistic Evaluation of Developmental Advancement (CHEDA) measures progress in each BRE area.

  • Provides structured observations and benchmarks

  • Combines clinical insights with staff observations

  • Ensures every child’s treatment plan stays personalized and effective

Investing in Children's Mental Health

Beginning August 2025, we implemented a partnership with the University of Texas at San Antonio to welcome our first cohort of Master’s-level LPC interns. This collaboration provides hands-on clinical training for students and specialized, supervised services for children. The model expands our capacity to address diverse mental health needs while maintaining high quality standards through structured oversight.

As part of our counseling infrastructure, our team has pursued paneling RCSA through Superior Medicaid and established a sliding scale fee structure. This positions our mental health services to extend beyond the three core programs and into the broader community—removing financial barriers while ensuring sustainability for families across income levels.

Looking ahead to 2026, we’re laying the groundwork for a fully staffed mental health department with clinicians embedded within our residential homes. Our phased expansion will extend therapeutic services to families in the Community and Daycare programs, creating a continuum of care that supports children and families across every touchpoint with our organization.
